I'd rather spend my money on a 10000rpm drive (or a flash drive maybe in a couple of years) than on a CPU that has 2 extra cores doing nothing.

That seems like a good idea. I haven't bought any 10,000 drives yet. I am a little concerned about the reliability, noise and heat (and generally lower capacity). But that would be one way to speed things up. Or flash (which speeds up seeks).
