Cut a line North-South in Europe. The Easterner you go, the less civilized the people. If you start in France, at east you have Germany, which is already less civilized, enter into former eastern Germany and the DNA of the Barbarians start getting stronger. Once you get deep into Russia across the Urals, then DNA is pure Barbarians, you are in a place where the chosen leader is Putin, it goes all the way down the hill until Vladvostok. Look at the line, just a bit south and go east again, you go and get the middle east and then the eastern you go you get, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and all the other stans upper north.

It is worth to revisit Caucasus. Big Inland mass Eurasia created many potential clashes. Similar to tectonic plates, when they met they caused upheaval. It is tough to be in this point of encounter of two distinct civilizations as Poland and Iran shows. Water borders make very good lubricant between civilizations. Made them more open and thus much more conductive to civilized progress: Italy Mare Nostrum, British empire, Holland Portugal and Spain. It is under this context that we need to look to Arabia, Caucasus and Russia. Even those people up there don't understand clearly what they ended up that way. We "Atlantic" people don't even grasp why they are that way. Because we are creatures of the places where we have had water blocking the hordes. It was ok to leave the Eurasians there with their own problems. But now other countries need their contribution. Need Gas from Turkmenistan to India via Pakistan, need gas from Iran to India. Need gas and oil to China... Therefore the world is waking up to look and understand that people
