Yes GB is traditionally expensive.

Here some oddity persists: in GB the diesel is way more expensive than 95 or 98 petrol.
The 95/98 is even higher in the netherlands and particularly Norway.
Norway and also UK are oil producing countries and in Netherlands, close to UK large refinery capacities exist.

The cost of living in London is exceptionally high. Renting a 2 bedroom is not below L700 a week, or L3000 a month. ( foxtons.co.uk )

This is nearly USD 1400.

I live in the centrum of a European Capital and the rent for such a flat is USD 900 a month.

UK: However, it now costs around 92 pence ($1.84) for a liter of unleaded petrol, compared with 46 pence when the currency was last at $2 in 1992, an average 2.56 pounds ($5.14) for a pint of lager, compared with 1.48 pounds and 85 pence ($1.71) for a loaf of sliced white bread, compared with 54 pence.
