Hopefully, there has been improvement in the system. They hire people with Cuban and other BG's and hope they are right. They depend on "fluttering" them to detect spies. It doesn't work, IMO. Using lie detectors is an attempt to get out of the cost of doing the ongoing BG checks needed for good counterespionage. Same problem we have had in ordinary espionage. The desire to "tech" everything. Fortunately, letting our enemies know our long-term plans to get at them doesn't hurt us too much. They only profit when they find agents in place and kill them. Since we are very bad at having agents in place, they don't get too many of them.
