Bush lied to congress about the WMD intel and Al Qaida contacts. It's true some congressmen and senators regret they made a mistake by trusting Bush in 2002-2003, but don't blame them completely. Bush-cheney doctored the intel do congress was just as duped as trhe UN and the American People. All that crao about Yellowcake and aluminum tubes and mobile labs, plus training camps, meeting Atta in Prague etc. All total hogwash. But Bushies sent it to the senate and congress as if it were fact.

Nobody voted to "go to war". That is a rightwing lie. If you go back and read the war powers act, it was to Bush authority to use force to disarm Saddam Hussein of WMD as a last resort.
Bush also pledged at the time to only invade as a last resort.

Six months before the invasion, the CIA Middle East station chief at the time now reports he told the White House that Saddam had no WMD. Furthermore, the UN weapons inspectors were being allowed full access in Iraq and doing great work. They found nothing of any real concern. Bush knew Saddam had no WMD but didn't care and never told congress what he knew. He was determined to invade no matter what, and without even having an exit plan or a strategy for who would run the new Iraq government. In fact the only thing they planned for was the oil-field grab.

It is true that some DEms drank the Bushie koolaid at the time, but they were also being lied to by Cheney's group which was pressuring the CIA to change, edit and exaggerate intel, showing congress the phoniest stuff and withholding the real stuff. This will all come out soon, though we smart people already know it happened. The Downing Memo was right. Bush-Cheney were shaping the intel to fit the policy, the opposite of what they were claiming to do.
