Well, Bill Clinton is about to go where no other former president has gone before, arguably, in service to enriching his wife’s presidential campaign warchest. Mr. Clinton is expected to speak to a “spinning” exercise class on Thursday evening on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, talking about health care policy to more than 30 women and men dressed in lycra and spandex and sweatshorts and the like. The spinners, who usually pay between $20 and $27 per class, are each paying $2,300 per bike — the maximum allowable donation to Mrs. Clinton’s campaign for the primary season cycle. Then, after a brief Q&A, the group will try to convince Mr. Clinton to spin with them. Ruth Zukerman, one of the owners of the spinning studio, SoulCycle, said she hopes to entice Mr. Clinton to ride a little by compiling some of his favorite songs to play along as the class rides. “I know he likes the Rolling Stones, so there will be a Stones song,” she said. “I’ll probably put on ‘Chelsea Morning,’ and I might put on Nina Simone.” “We’re hoping the playlist will be tempting enough that he’ll hop on a bike and ride,” added Julie Rice, another of the studio owners. Spinning involves riding a stationary bike to music, in standing and seated positions and at alternating resistance levels. There are 33 bikes in the spinning studio, and almost all are sold out, though Ms. Rice said that some donors might “double up” on a bike — letting someone else plunk down another $2,300 and actually ride the thing.
