I thought that line of his was pretty choice: "When I come out for ethanol subsidies, then you'll know," said Gov. Sanford. Probably only someone truly not running for President could afford (given the heightened importance of the Iowa caucuses in our electoral system, and the disproportionate influence that grants to a handful of well-connected agri-businesses) the honesty of referring, even in passing, even in a joke like this, to the utter waste and bad economics that ethanol subsidies represent.
