Independent Kurdistan is not only a magnet for refugees, its also a call for independence for kurds in turkey, iran, syria, ireland oops. In the short term its destabilizing for a region that has already been destabilized. Turks have the biggest problem because they have active (some terrorist) kurds within their borders. Long term the region is best served with a united kurdistan with contiguous land from all four countries included. Currrent kurd leaders realize the time is not yet ripe to declare but their patience will wear thin particularly with renewed sunni arab terrorist attacks in Kirkuk. My solution--build a golf course in the center of kurdistan and bring Tiger to play.
