If a unique number was in the hardware, it will be easy to find using a normal debugger. Besides the encryption could not be changed then, if it was compromised. The last time that was tried, it was broken so fast the designer's heads spun. Besides one of the first rules of decryption, the more data you have, the easier it is to break the encryption. It is even faster, if the data is known to you prior to encryption. An that easy to accomplish. Simply record a known DVD.
