Compal and Motorola

Presently, Compal sees approximately 90% of sales come from the biggest client -- U.S.-based Motorola. In the past, Compal contract-manufactured low-price entry-type cellphone handsets for Motorola until the middle of last year, when it shifted to roll out medium-tier W-series cellphone handsets for Motorola. The company noted it would soon debut several models of W-series cellphones handsets this year.

Compal aims to boost its annual sales to over the NT$100 billion (US$3.048 billion) mark in 2008. To that end, the company will set up a new business subgroup focusing on the sales of PDA (personal digital assistant) cellphone handsets, smart phones, and 3G (third generation)-based cellphone handsets, besides its present business subgroups of GSM (global system for mobile communications) and CDMA cellphone handsets.

Compal said the proposed new business subgroup will be headed by executive vice president C.C. Chen.
