Many thanks for bringing that piece here, LB.

Lewis is one of the few historians who deeply understands the Muslims view of history, which is a lot longer than the West's. Until policy makers understand what makes Muslims tick in this regard, many mistakes will be made. It was good to see that Cheney heard Lewis, though I suspect he has read every book Lewis has published.

While we find it vaguely comic that they are still aggrieved by al-Andalus, Crusaders, the ease with which Napoleon took over Egypt, etc., these grievances are real and still alive for them. From our perspective, these are events which took so long ago as to be irrelevant. Not for them, they really do know how to nurse a grudge, "get over it" will never fly.
