In a move that keeps French military technologies in French hands, the defense electronics company Thales on Wednesday announced plans to purchase satellite and security businesses from Alcatel for a mix of cash and shares worth about €1.7 billion bits and 'parked' them elsewhere.

A large stock buyback will help some... It'll at least show investors some confidence from the company. I'm also thinking we will hear shortly about cost cutting. I just hope they don't get the stupid idea (like Lucent did way back when) of spinning off parts of the company.
