Iran: irancell.ir 100% growth in Iran’s mobile market

The number of cellular subscribers in Iran has doubled over the past year, according to the country’s Minister of ICT. Mohammad Soleymani told local news agency IRNA that mobile market customer total has jumped from 8.5 million in March 2006 to 16.7 million today thanks to the launch of a new national operator and the significant expansion of existing networks. ‘The phone network coverage now reaches all of the country's 1,016 cities,’ he said. The market is dominated by state-owned Telecommunications Company of Iran (TCI), with two other operators, Taliya and MTN Irancell, also rolling out national networks.
