I agree that there are plenty of free market/Libertarians that would not fit my description, but try it the other way around: What fraction of those who think humans were created 10,000 years ago are: 1) anti-free markets, 2) pro environment, or 3) think that global warming is the result of human actions?

That is why I say there is a good correlation. But it is worse than that. There is a very definite streak of anti-science that runs in free market/Libertarian circles, and it does not just show up in creationism/evolution or anti-environmentalism. It shows up in such things as the long standing Cato Institute assault on cancer/smoking links as well. It is that sort of nonsense that needs to be called a turd.

I often wish that an outfit like Pew would conduct some really detailed polls to tease out such correlations in the US public. Publishing such results could lead to some much useful soul searching on the part of groups who do have good points, but who's ideology results in them largely accepting, or at a minimum, tolerating a good deal of nonsense in their ranks.
