While I could take the cynical approach, which I often do, I can't do so on Edwards continuing to run for office. I do agree that he is not likely to win.

As a woman, if I were Mrs. Edwards I would want my husband to continue to run for office.

I have experienced many friends, younger and older, having been diagnosed with the dreaded C. The hallmark of all of them is that they and their families lived their lives as fully as possible until the acute stages set in. I have great admiration for these friends, many who are now gone and some still living and yes with breast cancer.

My best friend died at age 14 diagnosed at age 10. She was brilliant, a tap dancer, a good skater, a piano student and had recently been elected to be a cheerleader during basketball season.

I did not know about the cancer until she did not return to school after xmas vacation. It was only then that her parents let it be known publicly that she had this incurable juvenile form of cancer and would not return to school. She survived into April. (Her father was a doctor and could do nothing about the cancer nor could Mayo Clinic)

Not being able to cheerlead, she ask me to substitute for her---I did so and carried books home for her homework continuing to share are girlish stories.

I think about the joy that she brought to me and others and how she lived her life fully in spite of the cancer until it became acute.

It seems callous for Edwards to continue to run for President----on the other hand if I were Mrs. Edwards that is exactly what I would want.
