Paul,
I really like the idea of "just the facts" especially with regards to the Nazi period. There has been way too much propaganda and disinformation for a very long time.

The promise of food and jobs was not really the Nazi long suite, they had way too much competition in that regard from the very powerful parties of the left, the communists and the several socialist parties, all of them promising bread and circuses of every description. The Nazi party did provide food, shelter and clothing (the famous "brown shirt" uniform) to many thousands of SA members, the Nazi paramilitary auxiliary, but to be in the SA you had to be an honorable veteran of the Kaiser's military.

Reichswehr advance planning to deal with the rapidly growing Soviet menace led directly to Hitler's appointment as Chancellor as many important Reichswehr officers, General Blomberg for one, had joined the party and these men persuaded their old leader, now President Hindenburg, to make the appointment.
