Maurice,
I don't think the two big ones were really intended for military purpose in Japan anyway. We needed to display this amazing technological leap to the Soviets, otherwise we would probably have had to use them on the Red Army in Europe, probably Western Europe and probably very soon, and if things were allowed to run that far, most likely very many more than just two big ones.
