Ted, > "The "classless society" is a pipe dream"? You know that how?

Most attempts at "classless societies" have failed in this world. The failures of communism are obvious, while the failures of socialism will become apparent once everyone votes themselves a raise. The personal motivation to be productive disappears as the impersonal needs of the society grow and grow.

There have been very few attempts at classless societies. Certainly, the old Soviet Union and present day China are not examples. Some kibbutz in Israel practice pure communism and are mostly classless societies. One of my Israeli friends was from a communistic kibbutz that invented the pvc used in lawn sprinkler systems in places like the OC and S. CA. Naturally the kibbutz made a ton of money.....not the people who invented the pvc but the entire kibbutz. They built a factory....it was run by all the people in the factory and not by plant managers or a VP for production. People who don't like that level of sharing, like my friend, Ehud, leave the kibbutz. That way the kibbutz doesn't have to hassle with dissidents.

Frankly, I think it would be very hard to live in a classless society. However, I can see its merits.
