Ted, I've seen one guy theorize that AMD just fed a poison pill to its shareholders with its acquisition of ATI. That, plus the debt they acquire, plus the dilution that comes from convertible bonds, continues to make AMD an unattractive takeover target.

The price, as you know, is simply supported by those who believe AMD can live to fight the Intel juggernaut another day. Sometimes AMD has its victories; witness it run-up to 40 between 2005 and 2006. But then Intel responds, and beats AMD back down.

By the way, I've noticed how people who get too focused on the technical side miss the fundamental issues revolving around INTC vs. AMD. It's like they think whatever Intel or AMD can come out with in the next year or two can suddenly bring back the glory days of the 90s. The truth is that the forces of commoditization are a bitch.
