Coug,
I thought the Edwards family was really beautiful today. I don't get impressed by much in terms of short term stuff- it's the arc of a life that is usually impressive- but I find the Edwards' family reaction to adversity to be impressive and exemplary. May they have a wonderful time with the time they have left together. May they feel they've really accomplished something. I can't say I much admire people who lie down and die, or who stop doing what they can, because they've gotten a sentence of death- after all we all have that sentence, it's just most of us don't know the date.

Do we not want presidents to be men who forge ahead with will and gusto in the face of adversity? I'd say Mr. Edwards is a man who can do that, and even better, he seems to have a strong family who can do the same.

There are people who will criticize anything- let's concentrate instead on the positives- and the marvelous example this man and his family give us all in how to live until you die, and not giving up on life and dreams before time. I'm sure the Edwards family won't be looking at the negative press, at least I hope they won't- they don't seem the type to dwell on the negatives. Let us follow their example.

Rush cant keep his dirty hands off the disabled and the ill. First it was Michael Fox and now Elizabeth Edwards. There is little chance that Edwards will finish the race if this disease runs its typical course. Their joint statement was motivational and although i disagree with most of edwards views, i respect the fact that he is the only candidate on either side taking hard positions. What happened yesterday may have helped his campaign in the short term but for druggie limbaugh to suggest it is somehow fabricated is disingenous & sucks. That piece of shit should disappear from the national scene. He more so than even the Christian right is what killed the Reagan big tent philosophy and turned the republicans into the mirror image of what they hate about the lefties screaming, yelling and misstating the facts.

John Edwards is a trial lawyer, which means he has good instincts for what will sell and what won't, and you can't sell cancer as a way to boost your campaign.

Exactly the opposite -- people will be wondering whether he can go the distance now.

Letting people know Elizabeth has cancer but they're not dropping out shows that he has a personal liability that he has no control over, with the potential to remove him from the race.

Disclosure was appropriate, just as it is appropriate to disclose other health issues.

It's heart-warming to know that she wants him to continue. She's always been his best asset.
