Nope, every student who was male might have been needed in WWII, so there were provisions made for every male (pre enlightenment) needed to know how to shoot. We marched trained on .22 in the gym, and .303's at the range in Niagara, and every student in Cadets, in my school most of us could take apart and put together an FNCI which was the weapon of the army. At 15 I had learned to use those rifles and a 36 pound bow. BTW because we live near the lake, there was also a big group of sea cadets.
