<<In many situations, it is superior to guns.>>

When I was 18 I got into bows. I made a 55 pound pull recurve bow out of fiberglass and maple with the handle being walnut and cherry wood. Took me 6 weeks working evenings.

When I went to the 581st in Germany my parents sent me the bow and the arrows I had made but forgot the string. I made a new string out of dental floss and bagged a few rabbits.

And it is a specialized skill that takes a lot of practice.

I had a couple of bales of hay set up in the gully behind the house when I was a kid, and we went to the YMCA on Saturdays and shot with an instructor for 2 hours.. We used to take out bows and practise as a group at the football field.

I think kids will spend time learning a skill like that that adults lose the patience for. Life gets in the way
