DC -- the District of Columbia -- was created from land donated by the states of Maryland and Virginia. It was originally square -- somewhat more than half of the square in Maryland, somewhat less directly across the Potomac River in Virginia.

Eventually they gave the Virginia part back to Virginia, so now DC is entirely across the Potomac from Virginia but it's less than a mile from Virginia, and I live and work less than 15 miles from the Capitol building, White House, etc.

Sure, any time you are in the region, send me a PM. I'm always up for hitting the museums, the restaurants, or acting as a tour guide, especially after work and on the weekends.

We've been here almost 20 years. And unlike most people around here, I like to drive around and see things and do things in the entire region and beyond.

There are actually people in Northern Virginia who have never actually visited DC, and vice versa.

Boggles the mind.
