At least it will be an interesting election. The two Reps I favor now, Rudy & Romney, although pandering more to their chosen base these days (which I can forgive for political understanding) are both most recently rulers of the opposite party from their states (N.Y & Mass). I think that is a very useful background to have, and one I would increasingly favor as a means of helping to select future Presidents: Look for gov's or big city mayors who were from the minority party of their state. If popular with the majority from their state, despite opposite party affiliation, that is one major good sign that they will not be idiots as President.

The front Dem runners don't have this appeal currently, although you could at least claim that Hillary understands very clearly the need to represent her voters, not just her own views anymore. If Hillary were not a Clinton, and lacked her more distant past, I think she might actually make a good President. Everyone has a millstone of some sort.
