John Edwards wants to be President. His chance is now. If he waits for his wife to be better it will delay him. If he waits for his wife to be dead, he ras to run unelectably as a bachelor.

His wife must be very brave to give him the green light. Historically winning candidates wives do much stumping for their husbands. The stress that would result would have deleterious effects on here health if she were to stump that hard.

I don't admire him for the decision, nor do I harbor any ill will for it. I do admire his wife.

One has to wonder about Elizabeth's choice to spend her last years of life on the trail. Apparently she has a 20% chance of surviving five years. She may leave behind a 10 or 11 year old son who never really got to enjoy his last couple years of her life.

My mother died of cancer. I regret that she never met my wife nor was able to be a grandmother to my children.
