Electric cars. The equivalent cost compared to oil is $1 per gallon. The delivery infrasture is already there. The R&D is done. We know how to produce electricity, and the 1/3 savings on energy use would certainly make up for the investments in plants.

One extreme example:

Imported oil represents 1/3 of our trade deficit
The majority of oil profits are invested in other countries
We fight wars for oil
The money we spend on oil enriches our enemies
Pollution and/or global warming, if you buy into it

Imagine reversing all that... and keeping the money at home. What's that worth?
