Seeger's original leftism (originally called "communism"{ in the 30's) that has nothing to do with what the Soviet Union became. Seegar supported the USSR during the Stalinist era. He changed his position on the US entering the war based on what would help the USSR. The big lie of the rightwing McCarthyists was that the original communist party from the 30's and 40's, born of the Great depression which greedy millionaires created, which simply stated the need for workingclass rights, was the same as the perversion of communism which the Soviets... Thats not a lie - the CPUSA was a puppet of the USSR. This has been well established by historians. Seeger's brand of liberalism had nothing to do with that and was in fact the opposite of it. More like the teachings of Jesus Christ. Share and share alike. The liberal need to defend communism is amazing but there it is again.
