By the way I left out another important fact.

The first issue of the Bell systems Technical Joiurnal describing Unix was subtitled "The Unix Timesharing System". Not the "Unix Telephone Switch System", but "The Unix Timesharing System".

Unix was a Bell Labs experiment done by researchers investigating ways to implement a multi-user interactive computing environment (using serial character terminals) on low cost computers. That is, Unix itself had ZERO to do with telephone switches initially, even though it was invented by a telephone company.
