Yeah, that's another one of my concerns. I'm far more concerned about BP than any other health condition. I take two meds for it, and have for over 40 years. One thing I've only recently noticed is... booze does affect my BP. My meds bring the readings down to very acceptable numbers. Add booze, not acceptable. So.... I'm treading a fine line here. I keep my weight pretty well under control and that helps, but I don't want to give up the nightly adult beverage.

Then get that blood pressure down and go in for that colonoscopy. If you have any family that has had it, then it is doubly important to have one. This is National Colon Cancer Month and everyone over 50 should have it done. Polyps are usually the beginning of cancer and can be snipped off during the procedure or they can grow and go through the colon wall. If caught early cancer can be cured quickly. Mine was with only surgery and no chemo or radiation. I was one lucky lady and when I work up and was told I was cancer free and had to have zero treatments I had a whole new lease on life.

By catching it early I did not have to go through things that really make you feel badly. I continued to have them every couple of years and have now been told I do not have to have another one for ten years. I am almost six years cancer free and of all I know who have had colon cancer, I have had the least problems with it, even after having a large amount of my colon removed. Everyone that I have convinced to have one has had polyps removed and are glad they finally had one. They all thought they had none. Colon cancer if it gets into the lymph nodes can spread to the liver, lungs and brain and those cancers are very ugly to deal with and have many less recoveries. The word cancer is just a very frightening word for anyone to hear as a diagnosis. Just call a GI Dr., pick a date and put it on your calendar and just have it done soon. Just think of it as a case setting and follow through.

Be safe and not sorry about having to have a colonoscopy. You will be glad for the peace of mind it brings, not only to you but the rest of your family. It really is a simple procedure with no pain and the preparation is probably the worse, but worth it. They now have a preparation that involves only taking pills and cleans you out in about three or four hours without having to take the liquid. It is a much easier thing to accomplish now.

M.D. Anderson is in Houston where I live and research is being done on all types of cancer every day. There are less deaths from cancer this year than previous years so they are making a great deal of progress with the millions of dollars research they are doing.
