A real failure of leadership by the Bush Administration.

I think it is more a failure of vision and understanding. The administration was far too idealistic and naive in their goals.

We think the rest of the world would appreciate freedom and democracy, but a good portion of the world is too primitive, intransigent and messed up for these ideals to work.

The administration was probably told by experts that democracy would not work in Iraq and refused to believe. Who would not love democracy? Any society that puts a single religious book above laws created by men - that's who.
