rofl well you know, in old La my husband would be considered black, and he is a blue eyed caucasian Irish -looking fellow. So I guess it depends what you mean by black. My husband's grandmother "passed" and left the side of the family that looked black. I know that's a tangent- but what you said made me think of just how tangled up ancestry and origin are in the US (and probably everywhere else). You can't do a thing to convince the extremes, although even the extremes are being eaten away at the margins. I'm amazed at just how quickly the Bush supporters have been cripplingly maginalized. For the ones who can't adapt, expect a lot of anger. It's never fun to lose- and they still think they are "right" (as in correct)- so it's an especially hard time for them. They will try to find punching bags to work out their anger and disappointment on, and (imo) engaging them is to offer them one- yourself. Don't do that :-)
