Liar. Seeger never supported the USSR. The early "communist" movement during the Great Depression had nothing to do with supporting military or police states which take away citizens' rights. Seeger and the others stood for MORE RIGHTS, including all the rights the USSR took away from its people. The word "communist" was totally bastardized by the USSR. The big lie of the rightwing on this subject is they are coparing the USSR's brand of fascist communism to the idealic utopian Christian type "help your neighbor and protect the workingman against the robber barons" philosophy of the 30's-40's. After the USSR became a dictatorship there was no real communist party left in the US. Seeger is the opposite of a USSR communist. Just as Bush is the opposite of Abraham Lincoln though both are Republicans.

oh Christ, what a loonie. Lucille Ball was a commie red also then? There was a huge socialist movement in the USA during the great depression, all kinds of people were in it who later became wealthy and denounced it. The real issue which is the "movement" in the 30s in the USA was mostly concerned with people not starving to death,and it had nothing to do with what the USSR later became. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS who successfully graduated from JR HIGH CIVICS class.
