>>It's quite amusing how people listen to Maurice's rants and believe they know how life is in NZ.<<

Pssst... Gib, we know Mq is making a lot of this stuff up. But he's quite funny so we let him get away with it! -Snow

one should also ponder on why so many more folk (3 mil over NZ) pile on to HK, pay ridiculous sums, suffer the congestion, and remain in place, even though most can pack up and go just about anywhere

Gib,
I have two cousins, both with undergrad degrees, and both nice enough in their own way and they both think that New Zealand is something like Heaven on Earth and Nirvana combined, the real Holy Grail. Neither one has ever been there but one of them did go to Australia a few years ago on a two week bicycling enviro-tour. Neither one of them has ever "hit a lick at a snake" (North Georgia mountain lingo to describe a man who is unwilling to work) and they both used to have money but I guess by now they have about run through it. One of them is gay and the other likes gals, or he did years ago.

Over the years I have heard both of them say "I am going to move to New Zealand one day" time and again. It is like something that is always at the back of the mind. And I have heard this same sympathy expressed time and again over the years from other guys, but always folks similar to the cousins in many ways. I suppose they think your country is one big enviro-nuclear free multicultural Kumbayah singing, whale saving, environmentally sustainable, Bush free ....welfare state. They never mention this latter feature, but I bet this is at the back of their mind, it fits with the idea that there are going to go there ...someday, like when they finally run through the money. <grin>

Should I tell them to come on down? You will have to feed them.

Years ago, I invited one of them (the straight one) to go with me to Guatemala. He acted like I had insulted him, suggesting that he go to such an "exploited" country.

Those two cousins dream of New Zealand. The more rambunctious types enjoy Belize, Haiti, Philippines, Africa, and the holy grail, Bangkok.

Gib, it is quite funny in Epsom how there are lots of Chinese names at individual addresses. I think a lot of them must be rorts to get their offspring into Auckland Grammar School. I deliver loads of Act leaflets in the area, so have a good view of the electoral roll.

When one gives things away for free, one should not be surprised when out of 6 billion people, enough to swamp NZ show up at the borders and manage to con their way past gullible or dishonest immigration people.

Have you heard of John "Tuariki" Delamere tvnz.co.nz or "Taito" Philip Field who Helen Clark said was guilty only of being helpful... giggle...? newstalkzb.co.nz

"Tuariki" a Maori [as they are defined these days] was fraudulently selling his Maori heritage [ownership of New Zealand aka Aotearoa] for a spot of cash.

Which is exactly how the Treaty of Waitangi came into being, along with other motives such as the desire of various Maoris to avoid being attacked by other Maoris, who liked nothing more than a good hangi of opposition [yum yum] and to shrink a few enemy heads after tattooing them to sell to the curious English. Now they want said heads back, with great acts of sorrow and heartfelt love for the victims [with free overseas trips to accompany said remnants back to where they were murdered].

One of the main reasons I am still here is that my family and friends are mostly here. It's nice to live in the south of France or Australia or San Diego, or even London in summer, such as it is there. But one misses family and friends. I am figuring out how to induce a critical mass crowd to move in one big migration. Unfortunately, that is guaranteed to split people up. With two of four offspring living overseas, there is already some incentive to move. But with grandchildren here, it's a problem.

It would be far better to change NZ's mentality away from the violent bludger suffocatocracy kleptocratic society, boot the government and make it into Shangri-La. It could be a supremely excellent place to live after some sorting out. But there's no sign of that happening.

Kiwis are going to get a shock when sufficient Chinese culture is here to change the mentality and political impetus from bludger mentality to China's ways which doesn't involve a big welfare state for freeloaders. Young Kiwis are also going to adopt that philosophy and indigent naive and gullible baby boomers entering their twilight years are going to get a great shock when they have to work until they drop.

Contrary to what you think, <the arrival of all these Chinese people makes Maurice unhappy, but still not unhappy enough to leave. > I am in favour of such a cultural shift, but not via dishonest immigration with bribes paid to "Tuariki" and "Taito" scum to facilitate the theft of my country. I want a Tradeable Citizenship auction for qualified people.

You are right <NZ is still overall one of the better places to live > though I would call it one of the less bad places to live. It would be good to have Airbus 380s doing a Kiwi haj to a sunny northern country for May, June, July, August. Birds have the sense to migrate each winter. We should have as much sense.

That's why I advocate invading Hawaii and annexing it for New Zealand. Hawaiians [the aboriginals] are more Maori than American, so that should get good support. Or, if Hawaii wants to invade NZ and annex it, that would be okay too.
