The HISTORY channel had a 2 hour episode on the Greek last stand. It was very interesting, and one of the facts they brought out was that WERE IT NOT FOR THAT STAND, Western Civilization as we know it with Democracy (a new idea just starting out in Greece) most likely would NEVER have occurred and we would be VASSALS of a dictatorship.

Now, fast forward to yesterday in 2,007 and observe the COWARDLY DEMOCRATS. They may very well have brought about the initial steps of the downfall of our nation. I SPIT on them. jdn

But the films never once take into account that the countries they fought for stood for different things and that some of those things, like freedom, are good and some, like genocidal tyrrany – well, not so much

I was watching Judgment at Nuremberg with Spencer Tracy last night. That movie would never be made today. Too confident in the rightness of the West and common decency.

Re 300: "In the days of the Spartan 300, there was NO other option but Victory...and it's the same today. The difference is, some of us don't either understand that, or don't acknowledge it" my husband said as we left the theater.

We FINALLY had a chance to see 300 tonight. Local theater still was half full, even after nearly a month on the screens here.

Both the VDH review and remarks, as well as this from LIBERTAS, seem to say it all to me.

300 rejects this view and rightly so. The film understands that we celebrate heroes because we dine on the fruits of their sacrifice. The greatest of these fruits is liberty, more precious than life itself. And when we glorify the heroes who defend our liberty with their lives, it reminds us too that we must live in responsibility to them, not only in our actions but in our philosophies as well. Every day that we preserve and cherish our freedom is a monument to them, a sign that they are not forgotten. They are never forgotten.
