Cops say body burned on barbecue
UPDATED: 2007-03-26 01:46:19 MST

By AP

HOUSTON -- For at least two days, neighbours at a Houston apartment complex noticed an acrid aroma.

They also wondered about the black smoke and leaping flames coming from two barbecue grills on the balcony of a second-floor suite.

What, neighbours thought, was going on where 27-year-old Timothy Wayne Shepherd lived? What was he burning for days at a time?

The answer turned their stomachs.

Police say Shepherd dismembered and then burned the body of his former girlfriend, Tynesha Stewart, a 19-year-old university student because he was upset she was involved in a new relationship. Cops say nothing remains of Stewart's body.

Shepherd, who is charged with murder, is being held on US$250,000 bond in jail.
