Sorry, Saddam didn't have UN authorization to occupy Kuwait.

The Brits have both UN authorization (SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS MANDATE OF MULTINATIONAL FORCE IN IRAQ UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2007, UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1723 (2006))
and approval of an elected Iraqi government. No government can have a stronger basis than elections. Don't belittle democratic governance till you've tried it.
