Run for the hills, yes, but unfortunately, there are no hills - it's one big monkey cage with no bars between us and the monkeys. Similarly, TeoTwawki and financial matters in general impel me to run for the hills. TJ says "There's gold in them thar hills", but I think it's fool's gold. The very nature of money and geopolitics says there is no externality. Yes, one can establish a pitiful little network effect of one's own out of reach of the gravitational effect of global financial relativity theory, but even with the chimpoid nature of the 6 billion, there are 1 million who are highly unchimpoid and they are propelling the rest faster than a little Mqamish zone I might establish. So, I'm sticking with the slow, but relentless, grinding exceeding fine, DNA and extra somatic developments of the regular financial and geopolitical cosmos. It's very easy to see how people like to form up into rank and file, start strutting and marching, saluting and chanting, looking for any opposition to attack and attacking with enthusiasm and gusto. I have thought for some time that China is fit to blow for various reasons, but including and importantly because 19% of males are spare, surplus to requirements - there are far fewer women due to abortion and infanticide. Which could actually be a good thing in a very harsh red in tooth and claw way, which is how nature works. Because those terminated were likely those with less ability and the shortage of women will enable them to choose the males of superior characteristics. The surplus males are likely to fight, organize, and wage war. Perhaps on neighbouring tribes such as Taiwan, India, Russia, and elsewhere. There is a disparity in reproductive urges, and there is sexual dimorphism of human males and females. Brothels are invariably for men. Males have several wives rather than women having several husbands. That is common in mammals. Therefore, even at the natural balance of 103 males to 100 females there is a surplus of males. Maybe they will simply drink booze and fritter their lives away. I doubt it. The society is too autocratic and organized and energetic. I watched via television, the 50th celebrations of Maoistic marvels some years ago [I guess it was 1998] with Jiang Zemin tootling up and down the ranks in a limousine. He would call "Sieg" and the mob would call back "Heil". He did it a few times. Gung Ho indeed. I can't help what springs to mind when I see things. I didn't think of babbling brooks and lambs bounding with each other in the sun and daffodils on a grassy bank. Nor did the Mona Lisa pop into mind. Nor a new cyberphone technology. Nor a fine-tuned genetic engineering technique. Nor a cob of corn. What came to mind was the Nuremberg rallies. The similarity was somewhat unnerving. I am waiting for developments. I notice that China is enthusiastically whipping themselves up for war over Taiwan. I see they are lathering over Japan. They are rumbling about the USA. They are shooting escaping Tibetans. They have a border with India. India has a big surplus of males too, for the same reasons. The stage is set. I think the 21st century has some history to play out. There are certainly plenty of people for events much more serious than those of the early 20th century with geopolitical attitudes to match. With anodyne CDMA phragmented photons suffusing the aether, soothing the beast, we might go direct to Shangri-La without MAD conflict. But we might not. Even if people don't have to be saved from themselves, they certainly need to be ordered around, told who is boss, have their property confiscated, and if they won't go quietly, there are plenty of males to make them do it. Egged on by females who like nothing better than a very orderly society and a strong man. Mqurice
