The one you posted is an American Breed soft coated wheaten, they have a DOUBLE layer of fur, thats the kind our female is, the Irish one (the original) has a single layer of fur and is much bigger and stronger as it hasnt been watered down through interbreeding. (All the American ones can be traced back to only TWO dogs that had an unusual second layer of fur and were thus bred too to achieve that coat, but it took a lot of the vigor, strength and health out of the animal).
As to the ROARING, a Wheaten ONLY barks when he perceives DANGER. They say if a Wheaten barks you better DO SOMETHING. They make great housedogs because of this and the fact they only really need two walks a day and they are VERY human oriented. The animal psychology books say a wheaten is more ATTUNED to a humans feelings then any other animal on earth. I believe it.
The only NEGATIVE on a wheaten IMHO is they require DAILY COMBING AND BRUSHING or you will get the worse case of matts you ever saw in their coat. jdn
