Another culprit is the dishonest rightwing political attack machine and the people who fall for it. Fortunately though Bushies are gradually disproving all the rightwing myths.

True, Bushies also cheated in the last two elections, but many gullible voters were taken in by their mantras of "democrats dont support the troops" (when Bush is the one who has neglected our troops) and that "democrats will raise your taxes" (only true is your rich, that is making over 200 K a year and Dems run much more efficient governments which benefit average taxpayers more, so it's a better bargain).

The reason many moderate Dems are afraid to vote against Bush on the war is they still remember what the phony Bushie smear campaigns did to patriots like Kerry, McCain, Daschle, Cleland, Harold Ford and they don't want to give the RNC any ammo.

That really is a tragedy but you can't blame politicians for wanting to get re-elected. It's a great job. You don't want to give that up.

The money in politics is much more a factor with the GOP. Rich dem fundraisers don't ask for anywhere near as many favors in return. Anne Richards once told me "the GOP always goes home with who brought 'em to the dance". And the taxpayers and consumers get screwed.
