Bush inherited huge surpluses and turned them into record deficits.

FDR is a special case and cannot be compared to GW Bush. That was an extraordinary time. We were at world war on two fronts and every single American was sacrificing everything he/she could afford to the effort. Of course we had to spend, but FDR also created the largest and most effective social programs for the poor and middleclass, which got us out of the Great Depression and ushered in the great middleclass of the 40's to 60's. Unfortunatelky he also created the military-industrial complex which lobbied us into the Cold War and needless wars for profit like Vietnam, Korea and Iraq. Eisenhower had a thing or two to say about that.

Bush and his people despise FDR's social programs and his strengthening of the middleclass. This goes back even earlier to when Bushies of the day supported the robber barons and Vanderbilt Carnegie Mellon types who paid no taxes yet owned a huge portion of the country, and everyone else ate cake. One of those heirs Mellon Scaife funds Newsmax and all the smears against Clinton. He is a greedy billionaire miser, the true Bushie behind the curtain along with the Big Oil CEO's and Saudi Shieks.

Bush's deficits will turn out to be much bigger than he is admitting. Bush and his people have a long history of politicizing such announcements, using shell games and smoke and mirrors to hide the true costs and trumpeting false successes. Like how they never include war costs in their budgets and claim they are reducing deficits when that would only be in comparison to artificially inflated projections they made 3-4 years ago. Or how they leave out the 2 million worse scores to tout No Child Left Behind as a success, when it definitely is not. See what a fraud it all is?

And in the meantime, who is winning economically in the US? Not the middelclass certainly, only the very rich and big corporate elite. That's who. Almost everyone else is getting the short end of the stick.
