Four of my personal favorites in the category of 'new religions', Sandy, are: Followers of "the Bab" ("Babists", I believe) --- run out of various Middle Eastern countries in the early part of the twentieth century for his claims of being the latest and final prophet of God... in the long line of Moses, Jesus, Mohamed, etc. Jehovah's Witnesses --- (one of the basic tenants of their faith is that Jesus' Second Coming has ALREADY happened... in the early part of the twentieth century, I believe, in America....) Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) --- Joseph Smith's Golden Tablets, and his failing of the challenge by doubters to repeat the 'revelation', the 'Angel Moroni', etc., etc. Scientologists --- L. Ron Hubbard and the alien "Thetans"... (need I say more?) (Of course... probably the "Cargo Cult" of New Guinea should at least receive an honorable mention on my list... for reasons of sheer picturesqueness, if nothing else.) The good stuff just never stops!
