"What was he going to do with a loaded gun in the Senate building?" Nothing. The Senator's aide (decorated ex-Marine himself...) was handed the bag when when he dropped the Senator off for a flight at the airport. (Can't fly all that easily with handguns, don't 'cha know....) Either forgot it was in the bag, or never knew, when he went back to the Capitol and passed it through the x-ray machine at the Senate building. (Obviously a 'Geritol moment'. :-)
