I recall few (if any) stocks that went up on the announcement of a dividend cut, but I do recall many that went down very significantly. For that reason, I make it a policy to try to never own stocks into a possible dividend cut.

I may make a mistake and own a few shares of a dividend-cutting dog (HDL as an example), but then I try to sell immediately on the news, since for smallcap stocks the first trade is usually the best one.
