The problem with the way Americans perceive our government is that people believe the government's power is democratic from the bottom up; that it gains its power from the people it governs. In reality the government is little more than a reflection of the wealthy elite's priorities and the business enterprises they own, and public opinion is manipulated to support those priorities, as demonstrated by insane policies like the invasion and occupation of Iraq that benefits nobody expect the elite few.

Carter is a favorite punching bag of many who look back on Presidents. To his credit, his policies show he was a man of vision when it came to energy, just ahead of his time. Sure he did go along to get along a bit, but not enough for the military industrial complex and oil oligarchy to be happy with him. They marked him for defeat in 1980, and there are many indications that the hostage crisis in Iran in 1979/1980 was prolonged because operatives within the CIA and Reagan campaign secretly met with the Iranians and promised them much needed weapons and cooperation if they held on to the American hostages until Carter was gone. Then ABC's Nighline came along (a show created during the hostage crisis) and bashed Carter every night with the daily count of the hostage saga. It should be noted that ABC has historical connections to a CIA front companies, as the CIA wanted to start a television network that reflected American values for propaganda purposes. Funny how the CIA's pet network ABC was the one leading the charge against Carter during the hostage crisis. Carter reigned in the CIA for a few years and kept them from acting too out of control. Carter was no saint, but compared to the want-to-be dictator and the criminals who surround him in the executive branch and who flaunt constitutional government, Carter was a breath of fresh air.

9/11 demonstrates what a crock our government really is. Any government worth its weight would conduct a thorough investigation into exactly how and where and why our air defenses failed so miserably on 9/11/01, so we understand what happened and ensure it does not happen again, but the Democratic Congress is not interested in such beneficial hearings. Hmmm... Something doesn't smell right.

Very true Don. The CFR (see my board on the subject) is the "shadow government" people used to wonder about but weren't sure if it actually existed. It does and it's grip on government now is a death grip. They won. It's over and we just don't know it. A group of the wealthiest men in the world (the modern day version of the "robber barons" of the 1800's) have influence in every corner of government to work their own purposes. They have even had their own as President such as Bush 41, a long time CFR member. Reagan was shot to get Bush in the top spot faster? Maybe just a hair brained scheme of a Bush family friend, John Hinkley? Who knows. When JFK said he would have no part in any Pax Americana he was toast for not cooperating. Now Bush 41's reckless (or not so reckless) son has fulfilled their wildest dreams of expansion. See my board on this. The super rich elite are building a world financial order with themselves in control using US military might and influence and our own tax dollars to do it.
