In reality the government is little more than a reflection of the wealthy elite's priorities and the business enterprises they own, and public opinion is manipulated to support those priorities, as demonstrated by insane policies like the invasion and occupation of Iraq that benefits nobody expect the elite few. Carter is a favorite punching bag of many who look back on Presidents. To his credit, his policies show he was a man of vision when it came to energy, just ahead of his time. Sure he did go along to get along a bit, but not enough for the military industrial complex and oil oligarchy to be happy with him. They marked him for defeat in 1980, and there are many indications that the hostage crisis in Iran in 1979/1980 was prolonged because operatives within the CIA and Reagan campaign secretly met with the Iranians and promised them much needed weapons and cooperation if they held on to the American hostages until Carter was gone. Then ABC's Nighline came along (a show created during the hostage crisis) and bashed Carter every night with the daily count of the hostage saga. It should be noted that ABC has historical connections to a CIA front companies, as the CIA wanted to start a television network that reflected American values for propaganda purposes. Funny how the CIA's pet network ABC was the one leading the charge against Carter during the hostage crisis. Carter reigned in the CIA for a few years and kept them from acting too out of control. Carter was no saint, but compared to the want-to-be dictator and the criminals who surround him in the executive branch and who flaunt constitutional government, Carter was a breath of fresh air. 9/11 demonstrates what a crock our government really is. Any government worth its weight would conduct a thorough investigation into exactly how and where and why our air defenses failed so miserably on 9/11/01, so we understand what happened and ensure it does not happen again, but the Democratic Congress is not interested in such beneficial hearings. Hmmm... Something doesn't smell right.
