re: At least the whole "Secret Agent Girl" thing had intrigue, even if most of it was played up by the Dems and the media.

You watch too much TV. These are real people, not actors.

re: Best thing the Dems can do to claim they're for the troops, but against the prolonging of the war.

Which makes a lot more sense than supporting the troops by prolonging the war. When 2 1/2 are dying each day... God knows how many are maimed for life each day. For nothing.

Bushies say they support the troops, but do they really?

let's look at the facts.

2001 - Bush immediately slashes VA funding
2003 - Bush sends our troops into battle without body armor
2003 - Bush calls for more VA cuts
2004 - Bush privatizes Pentagon medical care for wounded vets which cheats vets out of proper care
2004 - Bush denies funding for veterans mental health
2004 - Bush runs campaign based on smearing a proven war hero and champion of veterans rights.
2004-2007 - Bush refuses to change course in Iraq dooming Army, Guard and Marines to endless multiple tours in that civil war stricken quagmire where eventually they're likely to get killed or maimed.

And might I add, we almost never see a Bushie enlist and serve in combat. That's only for other people.
