Additional reasons for landmass subsidence:

1) Extraction of ground water, oil, and natural gas;
2) Plate tectonics;
3) Compensation for isostatic rebound in adjacent areas?

Much of the current discussion in the press and public forums fails to distinguish carefully between local sea level changes, global sea level changes, normal climate dynamics, and alleged global-warming induced climate changes. The news headlines often don't match well with the contents of the articles.

Here in Alaska we have coastal villages asking for $ millions in aid so they can move further inland from the coast to escape beach erosion. They say the erosion is due to increased storm damage caused by global warming, rather than rising sea levels. The village of Shismaref is the classic example...
