On Rule 4:

If you short at 20 and it goes to 17 you are $3 ahead.

<<Shorts will be valued as PP+(DP-PP).
PP=Purchasing Price, DP=Price of the Day.>>

This would be 20 + (17-20) = 20 -3 = 17
which is the opposite of what we want.

<<<Shorts will be valued as PP+(PP-DP).
PP=Purchasing Price, DP=Price of the Day.>>>
is better:

Then 20 + (20-17) = 20 +3 = 23

See Message 23404278

<<<<Shorts will be valued as SP+(SP-DP).
SP=Shorting Price, DP=Price of the Day.>>>>
is even better.
