Mr. Owl - I'm surprised at your comments LOL. As a realist, you are trying to ascribe something "deep" to the bureaucrats and politicians. A true realist would realize that "status quo ante" is the road and that money is the fuel.

The hedge funds now control over 1/2 US equity trades and a higher percentage of foreign and derivative markets.

Need any more reason??

Seems to me that the revolving door between WS and high-level SEC/Treasury politicos guarantees status quo until the pressure for change becomes too intense. And that point is well into the future (if it ever actually occurs) due to the huge pile of grey $$ being made by prime lenders and hedgies.

Follow the money.
