The Arabs havent won a damn thing by this strategy. Thats why the Saudi initiative may signal a break from the past.

They think they have won a lot. Group cohesion (the only thing the Arab world can agree on is hating Israel) and a weaker Israel. You or I may point out that they have crippled themselves in the process, but as long as these rulers stay in power, they don't give a damn.

The Saudi plan is obvious posturing, to look like an offer without any chance being taken up for negotiation. You can see that bad as the original offer was from an Israeli viewpoint, the Arabs got nervous it might be accepted as a starting point, so they added even more preconditions. Now all the Pals are to be allowed "right of return" but no Jews.
