Maybe so, but here's what my thinking was at the time. I actually like the Libertarian party. They have a lot of excellent thinking. However, their candidates currently can't compete against Republicans. Normally, I'd just vote for the best candidate based on their alignment with my values. However, in the last election all of my values were suborned to two major imperatives: 1) get US troops out of Iraq asap and 2) get the US moving towards oil independence.

On both accounts, I knew that Bush simply wouldn't do anything meaningful. Even worse, Bush and his staff have proven time and again that they are completely incompetent. Given all of those facts, I decided that Kerry was who I'd vote for.

Now, in this coming election, it's a whole new ball game. On the Republican side, we have Guliani and McCain, who are both very competent men with track records of note. Of course, on the Democratic side, there are some compelling candidates as well. Right now, my main two issues continue to remain the same as in the previous election. I am still willing to suborn all my other political opinions to those two issues. When I scan the field of candidates between Democrats and Republicans, I still don't see any Republicans making oil independence their theme, or bringing home the troops either.

As such, it is very likely I'll vote Democrat again, unless it's Hillary. I'm going to have a hard time voting for Hillary, but I'll keep my mind open until the campaigning is done.
